User Review: Kodak HIE Infrared 35 mm 25
7 8 Share TweetThe Kodak HIE is a black and white high-speed infrared film. It is sensitive to infrared radiation and is not sensitive to green light. That's why the leaves on your picture became white and the water becomes black.
The film is great for taking outdoor and landscape shots with mostly water, trees, and clouds. You also need to use a red filter on your lens (I used the R25 from Hoya. Shooting pictures of people can sometimes result in having a glowing white complexion on them. It is said that infrared objects have a different focus from visible radiation. But being a Lomographer myself I just taped the filter around the Minister lens of my LC-A and shoot.
The HIE can be developed with regular black & white processing. Keep in mind when using a filter, you need to push a bit when processing. As for me, I just put the ISO setting of my LCA on 25 and processed it like ISO 100. There's no exact speed number for this film as the ratio of visible and infrared energy varies. Unfortunately, the Kodak HIE has been discontinued from production. So you might have to do a little hunting to purchase it.
Don't forget: Load and unload in total darkness!
