Kuantan 01: Teluk Chempedak

Getting tired of working nonstop? Always stressed out due to heavy workload? Why don’t you take a leave to relax your mind a bit and come back fresh? Run away for a while from your hectic city life and enjoy the scenery and peaceful breeze. Where else but in Teluk Chempedak, one of the most famous beaches in Malaysia.

Going on a vacation to Kuantan, Pahang? Why not stop by for a while at Teluk Chempedak. Seriously, it’s a beach like nothing else. So how to get there? From Kuantan, look out for signboards that point you to Pantai Teluk Chempedak, which is located just 10 minutes outside the city centre. This popular beach is hosted by the international-class Hyatt Regency Resort.

From Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan is a breezy two-and-a-half hour drive away on the scenic East Coast Expressway (ECE). Alternatively, there are 2-3 daily flights from KLIA to Kuantan Airport (KUA) on Malaysia Airlines (MH). Unfortunately, AirAsia (AK) does not fly to Kuantan. As you walk along the promenade, the breeze will blow gently to your face and kiss all your problems away. You can find small stalls along the way that sell lots and lots of cool stuff. There’s also an artist over there that can paint your portrait handsomely. Sounds awesome right? At the very end of the promenade, you can find a wooden bridge that connects you to the other side of the beach. It was fun to walk along the bridge as sometimes you may be surprised by a cute visitor (a MONKEY!). Lol. The other side of the beach is suitable for those who would like to camp or have some privacy as it’s very quite over there.

The main part of the beach is quite packed especially during holiday. You can see lots of people hanging out and chat with their friends while others prefer to swim or walk along the seashore and also running back and forth when the sea waves try to brush their feet. Lol. Why not try to collect some seashells to bring home as part of your memory (don’t forget to bring your lomo cameras to snap some interesting photos too). But please make sure that you don’t swim when the red flag is raised which means it’s not safe to swim. Worried of getting hungry? There are lots of shops and even fast food restaurants for you to have a bite and fill your empty stomach. KFC and McD to name a few.

From a geological aspect, Teluk Chempedak is a very unique place. Long time ago, there’s volcanic activity around and lava believed to come out from the cracks. When the lava cools down, it forms basalt stone. Then dolorite dike intrusion happens followed by granite intrusion. If you’re brave enough to walk down from the bridge, you can find some three-layer rocks, made up of basalt, dolorite and granite.
