My Week In Film: December 1st-7th, 2014

December brings with it Winter, the end of the year and the last chances to get those photographs taken that you wanted to do the rest of the year. I decided to kick off December with a slew of photography adventures and a few camera purchases.

I started off December by writing a review of Fuji's Instax Mini film for Lomography.com. I enjoyed putting together the review; it meant I got to show off some of my Instax photos as well as talk about the cool things that can be done with it.

Recently, I was given a Kodak Brownie Art Deco box camera from the 1930s-1940s. I was dying to try it out, so I decided to take a photo with it on Instax Mini film.

To do this, I used my changing bag with the box camera sticking out of one of the sleeve holes, then popped the Instax film into my Mini 90 to develop it.

The Lomography Lomo'Instant cameras started shipping over the last few weeks. Their arrival resulted in lots of fun shots and experimentation from everyone. I don't have one yet, but I do have my Neo Classic Mini 90, so I've been using it. One very "Lomographic" technique is a method that utilizes a quirk in Fuji Instax Mini film. If you overexpose the shot enough, you get an negative image. The results are quite cool looking, but when you invert that, you get an even cooler image.

I even tried to do some double exposures, one inverted and one normal!

I recently wrote a blog post about the Holga Close Up Lens set. I also just recently purchased the Holga Macro Lens set too. This set contains two lenses, a 60mm/2.36" lens and a 30mm/1.18" lens. These can be used pretty much with any camera as long as you can hold the lens against the camera's lens.

Macro photography decreases your depth of field so that a tiny movement forwards or backwards can bring the image out of focus.

Early in the week, I discovered a roll of film in my Voigtlander Bessa R3M that I had shot this past summer. So, I popped it into my Horizon 202 and had some fun shooting holiday lights and other light sources around town.

I was already in a doubles mood, so I decided to have some fun with my Lomography Spinner 360. I shot two passes with the Spinner 360 over a roll of black and white film and got fun results.

Thursday, our weather got colder and it got foggy & misty outside. If you've never shot in the fog, you get glowing lights, light rays visible in the mist and even familiar locations become mysterious and new.

Some films lend themselves to multiple exposures, like Lomography's Lomochrome Purple. It's extremely versatile with its wide exposure range and super cool pink color when shot as redscale. It's the perfect doubles film.

I also really enjoy shooting my Horizon 202 swing lens camera, especially in B/W. So I took out in back to have a little fun.

I finished the week by buying two new cameras, a Kodak Instamatic X-15F and a Polaroid SX-70 Sonar OneStep.

And of course I had to test the SX-70 with some expired film.

As you can see, I had a busy week in my little film world. I hope this article inspires and motivates you to get out and shoot!
