LomoGuru of the Week: Adash

12

He tinkers computers for a living and tinkers film cameras as a hobby. It may sound like the same idea but it totally isn’t. For sure, this LomoGuru has a lot to share and offer!

He takes Lomography by heart and is very good in doing so. Coming from Bulgaria, Dimitar or adash has shared three good years of Lomographs and friendship in our Community. He’s also looking forward to adding more years in this experience! Let’s give an online high-five to this LomoGuru of ours!

Tell us something about yourself… What do you do for a living? What are your main interests?

I’m a computer administrator. I do a lot of tinkering at the console of some large UNIX machines, as well as some script programming.

Tell us something about your LomoHome’s name.

That’s my nickname at school. It literally means “someone with the same name as myself” – sort of nostalgia, I guess.

Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

The Lomography Community has done a lot to teach me, through experience, how to improve my photos. There are incredible photos in the Community and they serve my quest for perfection. There is so much to see and much to experience by keeping your eyes open in the Lomographic Community.

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends?

I’ve met very few – the charming team of fletchinski84, kneehigh85 and louwest during their trip to the country, and also Vasko (atropaworkshop) and Stanislava (agiel). I wish I could meet more! I am mostly open to requests for LomoWalks, film swaps, etc.

Sweet doubles with raylemon and dakadev_pui!

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

Sure. Lomography is in your heart. It’s an experience that you don’t forget and you can’t just leave behind.

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?

LOL this is a difficult question! I prefer to think of every camera as if it had its own personality. And they really have such for each has its unique feature. For example, I love to see how kids in the park will stare at my Diana F+ Neptune Green. I love the wide panoramas of the Sprocket Rocket, and the insane perspective of my Fisheye no. 2. I can’t really choose only one – they’re all too dear to me!

He couldn’t choose but it’s fine!

Please share your most favourite Lomographic photo that you took.

I think this is the one:

I love it because I consider it an achievement of my own – I believe I have captured both the depth and the dark, foggy feeling of a winter day. I like what I did there, just to say it short.

Please share a Lomograph you wish you took and explain why.

Oh, there are literally THOUSANDS of them! I think there are uniquely talanted Lomographers out there whose work I adore. I will be happy to achieve at least 1% of the beauty and harmony they capture. I am stunned by the work of many members but just to name a few: upic, atria007, warning, and satomi. Again, among so many unique personalities, it is difficult to pick one but If I have to, maybe that would be it:

I wish I could have taken this Lomograph, because it is simply AWESOME! I remember looking at it for minutes when I first saw it and I just couldn’t believe how beautiful it was!

What’s the best Lomographic or photography advice you think you have given?

“Don’t think, just shoot” and I meant it! Knowing about f-stops, ISO speeds, depth of fields, and hyperfocal distance, etc. is nice, but photography is not about technicality — it is about creativity and discovery.

If there’s one song or movie that best describes your Lomo life, what is that and why?

Hmm, another stiff one! I believe my Lomo experience is best described by Ghost Riders in the Sky. I mean not because I intend to change my ways today, but because I want to never stop chasing perfection.

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

Shoot and watch, watch and shoot. See a good Lomograph, and try to find out why you like it. Is it colour, contrast, composition, framing, or is is the emotion, the moment captured, or is it just? … Well, there is so much to learn!
