I met Irina 2 years ago, and since then we've had the most loving relationship I could've ever imagined. Now our goals send us in opposite directions. But as last year's experiences showed us, a little distance is close to nothing when fought back with our love.
We met on the first day of college in the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico. Neither of us were certain if it was the place where we wanted to be, but I guess you can say destiny wanted it that way. Now it’s been two years since that day, and I’m still here, but she isn’t. Today she left to continue pursuing her dreams in New York.
Little over a year ago, she broke news to me that she was interested in pursuing a career in Musical Theater. I was somewhat sad [as anyone would be about knowing their loved one is going away] but mostly I was excited for her that she would get the chance to follow her dreams and make it happen. She left to Los Angeles, California to study in the American Musical and Dramatic Academy [A.M.D.A.]. That first year was the hardest. Specially because we had never been apart, and were used to being together 24/7. So I bet you can imagine the desperation we felt when we wanted to be with each other and would have to settle for seeing each other over a webcam. So there we were, alone and apart. Thinking if this was the way we really wanted our relationship.
After a few conversations and a few tears we came to the conclusion that our love was something way too special to let go just because of a little alone time. We set our heads and our hearts straight, and decided to make our best effort to make our long distance relationship work. And so a year went by, and wouldn’t you know it? We got through just fine. And then our most anticipated moment occurred. She came home for the summer.
I think it’s safe to say we had the best summer together. We went on many road trips, spent as much time together as we could, and took all the photos you can imagine. She was my favorite subject of course. We even went to New York to see where she was going to study next, and what a blast it was.
When we came back we had very little time left together, but we managed to spend it the best way we could. And took the time for a few more road trips to see some incredible sites, and fuel up our love tanks to prepare for the coming year when we would be apart again.
Today she left. It’s one of those moments when you don’t really know how to feel. Because you’re sad because you’re saying good-bye to the person who is with you everyday of the week. But at the same time, you’re so happy because you know they’re happy about fulfilling their dreams. So there we are. She’s probably somewhere over the Atlantic right now, and I am here, missing her. But I know that what we have, we won’t find anywhere else. We have that spark, if you know what I mean.
And if we ever get too lonely, we can always look back to our beautiful lomographs and remember what it feels like to be kissed and be loved. Here’s to you Irina. And so I wait, forever for you.

Oh, that's a beautiful romantic story and you're so right in the efforts to make it work like this... distance is perhaps the best "tester" of a relationship/friendship.. And your lomographs are there to remind her when feeling a bit sad. I wish you a long and beautiful life together!!!
Damn dude. I feel for you. I spent 3 years away in a long distance thing before. It's rough. Your lomo family is here though. You do have some beautiful lomographs of her to keep you company though.

I was in that situation for more than three years! I used to listen to Pearl Jam's Come Back so much, that we chose the song as our first dance the day we finally got married. Listen to it, it may help you as well, who knows? Wish you both the best.

reminds me of my own story... i met my husband 14 years ago while he was doing his internship... after 6 months, he flew back and we were separated for 3 years with a 13 hours flight distance... we e-mailed daily, chatted online with 6 hours time difference and met up once a year. Today, we have 2 lovely twin boys. I believe it's possible :-)

Son unas fotos preciosas, y tu chica tiene mucha suerte de tenerte.

LDRs are hard work. I was in one over two years ago (didn't work out) and two of my oldest friends are in one right now. If two people are as crazy and perfect for each other as you, it's def worth all the sacrifices and compromises. So cute to see two people super in love with each other. Be happy always!

AMAZING LOMO LOVE STORY! You made me totally cry! When Irina was in Los Angeles, I remember helping her at the Lomo store, She would be on the phone with you and would buy whatever you needed.

if its true, then i know this girl too, ... and i think almost every creative person - and its not amazing that musicians, dancers, photographers and writers, ... are meeting here - has one similar story lurking somewhere deeply hidden in a corner of his mind.
@kategoetting hehe yeah i remember her being on the phone with me everytime she'd visit you guys. it was sad becuase i had just visited Irina in LA in Feb. and that's when we discovered Lomography in an Urban Outfitters, and then after I came back to PR and joined the community I realized there was a Gallery Store in LA and I got soooo sad haha and so I told her that she HAD to go and so she did and then she loved it and would go every weekend hehe ^_^. and i'm sure you'll get your love story soon =)

Keep your head up, I'm in a long distance relationship as well and sometimes it gets pretty damn hard but we do everything we can just to see or hear from each other, & hes the reason I began getting into lomography, he bought me my first camera (:

reminds me of my own story... i met my husband 14 years ago while he was doing his internship... after 6 months, he flew back and we were separated for 3 years with a 13 hours flight distance... we e-mailed daily, chatted online with 6 hours time difference and met up once a year. Today, we have 2 lovely twin boys. I believe it's possible :-)

LDRs are hard work. I was in one over two years ago (didn't work out) and two of my oldest friends are in one right now. If two people are as crazy and perfect for each other as you, it's def worth all the sacrifices and compromises. So cute to see two people super in love with each other. Be happy always!

@kategoetting hehe yeah i remember her being on the phone with me everytime she'd visit you guys. it was sad becuase i had just visited Irina in LA in Feb. and that's when we discovered Lomography in an Urban Outfitters, and then after I came back to PR and joined the community I realized there was a Gallery Store in LA and I got soooo sad haha and so I told her that she HAD to go and so she did and then she loved it and would go every weekend hehe ^_^. and i'm sure you'll get your love story soon =)
